The 24th Bogota Film Festival Fest opens Wednesday with the directorial debut of Colombian Carlos Palau, "El sueno del paradiso" (Paradise Dream), and closes Oct. 11 with the winner of the feature debut category.
Ten local pics will compete for Colombian film, which takes centerstage at the fest. Three of them will also vie for the feature debut prize, which is not strictly limited to the first pic.
Event pays homage to Egypt this year with the screening of 10 classics from the Arab nation, including Ahmed Galai's "Laila."
Fest introduces a competitive category aimed at filmmakers no older than 18. The Alexis youth prize is in honor of tyro filmmaker Alexis Echavarria who died at the age of 16. The Premio Alexis, to be awarded to video or full-length feature, includes a bronze sculpture and $1,000 cash prize.
